Pappy Van Winkle's Family Reserve 23 Year Old Bourbon is a fascinating dram. Extensive barrel aging has given this whiskey a complexity and diversity of character that isn't often experienced in bourbon: a bouquet of baking spice, bacon, tobacco, honey, leather, dark chocolate, almond, toffee, oak, and vanilla leads into unctuous, bold flavors of caramel, coffee, vanilla, dried fruit, and cocoa. Wine Enthusiast described it as "an American distilling masterpiece."
